Confidence is essential in business. You need biz confidence to pitch clients, market yourself and your products or services, connect with the right people, and take on new challenges to grow your business.
But for many of us, confidence isn’t a natural personality trait. In fact, many entrepreneurs are paralysed by self-doubt and fear of failure. Bummer, right?
If you are not naturally confident, does that mean you can’t succeed in business?
Hell to the fucking no, sister.
Like anything in life, confidence can be nurtured and developed.
Here are three simple ways for you to boost your biz confidence, starting today.
3 Easy Ways To Boost Your Biz Confidence
Stride Beyond Your Comfort Zone
I’ve said it before, and I’ll damn well say it again: growth doesn’t happen inside your safe little comfort zone ladies!!
It happens when you are trying new things, feeling awkward and scared with your heart pounding in your chest feeling like you’re going to puke. Confidence is born when you feel that rush of exhilaration as you put your heart and soul out into the great unknown.
Remember that those old habits of fear and self-doubt are well-worn pathways in the jungle of your brain. Creating new pathways is going to require new ways of thinking that won’t always feel comfy – with new actions to match.
Okay, you don’t have to jump out of a plane or do a TED talk (but by all means, do what calls you!)
It’s okay to start small. If you prefer emailing people, make a promise to yourself to pick up the phone instead. Or set a goal of pitching five new clients every month.
With practice, you will build confidence like a badass.
Ditch The Negative Thoughts
That little voice in your head that’s always talking shit? The one that tells you, “they all think you are an idiot,” or “there’s no way you can do this.” Yeah, that’s got to go.
Negative self-talk can make you doubt yourself, cause you to procrastinate or backtrack, and makes you second guess yourself constantly.
While it’s going to take some work to turn a negative mindset into a positive one, it’s totally possible. Start by focusing on the good things that you did – or that happened to you – every day, no matter how small.
Try journaling to get those negative thoughts out of your head and into the light of day so they can’t do as much damage. Stop trying to be perfect and just be proud of yourself for getting shit done. Focus more on your purpose and why you can than why you can’t.
Mix And Mingle With The Right People
It’s hard to build confidence when you are surrounded by people who don’t have confidence in you! Be discerning with who you spend your time with. Being around people that you look up to and learn from is fantastically motivating. Their confidence practically rubs off on you.
If you are still learning what it’s like to be confident, you can model yourself on the successful people you know. Study how they talk and carry themselves, how they approach challenges and what kind of mindset they have.
Before you know it, you will be displaying those same confident qualities.
Having people in your corner is essential, but they shouldn’t all be “yes-people.” Spend time with friends or colleagues who cheer you on or kick you up the butt as needed.
