Inaction is the biggest obstacle on your path to success. Yet many of us are paralysed by inaction due to overthinking, procrastinating, and fear. It’s much easier to think about doing something than actually pulling finger and doing it. But, it’s also an act of self-sabotage to over plan, over research, overthink, and delay.
Taking action is the most motivating and compelling thing you can do.
So today we are going to look at three simple steps you can follow right now to take action and move forward to being kickass!
3 Easy Ways To Take Action In Your Business
1. Get Crystal Clear On Your Goal
If you are not super-focused on your destination, you are going to drive around in circles not quite sure where to go.
Goals are everything… but you have to choose the right goals and know how to set them in a way that inspires you to act.
The most important part of goal setting is making sure they are in alignment with your purpose – your “why.” If they are not, you will have zero passion and motivation to get your ass out of bed and achieve them.
Maybe your goal is to be able to work less to spend more time with your family, make people’s lives better, make enough money to travel the world or just be the best, most inspirational chick in your industry.
Whatever it is, it has to be true to you.
Part two of setting goals is making them SMART goals, cos you’re a smart chick, right?
Picking something broad isn’t going to cut it. You need to choose goals that are:
So instead of saying, “I want to have a profitable business,” your goal should be more along the lines of, “I will increase profits by 15 percent within the next 12 months.”
2. Put Those Planning Powers To Good Use
Okay wonder woman, you’ve got your SMART goals all lined up, now you need to break ‘em down in order to take action!
I know how easy it is to get overwhelmed by a goal, turn around, and run the other way (boy do I know).
But that’s not how we roll.
We take that goal and turn it into a plan complete with baby steps that inspire us to act.
Take our example goal above: “I will increase profits by 15 percent within the next 12 months.”
Sounds a little intimidating, right? Not when you split it down into actionable steps that you can manage day by day. Do what you need to make it feel achievable. Break that goal down into monthly, weekly, or even daily actions.
Do you need to pitch five new clients every month? Perhaps you need to build your email subscribers list or develop a new product.
Figure out what tiny things you need to do to get to that grander goal, and then hit step three…
3. Do The Thing!
Don’t fall into the trap of getting stuck endlessly planning and overthinking the first two steps! While setting goals and creating a plan are forms of action, spending too much time on them takes us back into inaction territory.
Stop waiting to be motivated enough to act. Successful people learn that ACTION itself causes motivation, not the other way round.
Inaction may feel more comfortable in the short term. But trust me, it becomes damn uncomfortable in the long run.
Try diving into the discomfort, unknown, fear and EXCITEMENT of action for a change.
There’s no other way to see if something is really going to work, to get failure out of the way, or experience the success you have dreamed of than just doing it.
And there will be no stopping you when you do!
