The Hardest Part Of Showing Up Is Showing Up

Have you ever struggled to motivate yourself to pour a glass of wine and switch on Netflix?
Or struggled to make a list of all the reasons you should go get a massage and a facial?
I’m guessing that’s a hard no. Some things in life are just easy to show up to.

The Hardest Part Of Showing Up Is Showing Up | Natalie TolhopfBut unfortunately, most of those easy things aren’t going to help you achieve your goals and dreams.
Nope – growth, success, and fulfilment require you to put down the glass of wine (okay, sometimes you can bring it with!), turn off Netflix, and stride right on out of your comfort zone.

The struggle is real, ladies!

But before you get so overwhelmed that you’re retreating to the couch with a bottle opener, listen up – I’ve got some insight that changes everything.

The Hardest Part Of Showing Up Is Showing Up

Actually DOING the difficult stuff isn’t the most challenging part of growth. Showing up to do the difficult stuff is!

Have you ever actually decided to ditch out on a workout once you’re decked out in activewear standing in the middle of the gym? Chances are slim.

You’re much more likely to decide not to show up when the alarm goes off in the morning, or when you can’t find your shoes, or when you get in the car and it starts raining, or when you pass your favourite coffee shop on the way to the gym….

You see what I’m getting at, right babe?

This works for anything you find hard. It’s the procrastination, the excuses, the self-talk, the thought processes that allow you to wriggle out of your commitments that are your downfall – NOT doing the thing itself.

Taking Action

So, why is showing up the key ingredient in the recipe for success?

It’s because action is powerful. Action creates momentum.

Of course it’s easy to sit on your ass wishing you could start a new business, or experience more success, or feel healthier. Wishing is simple, but action can be hard – and scary!

Luckily, you can do scary things! We all can! Hell, do you think I was born this fabulous?! (Well, perhaps I was, but I’ve still put a damn load of hard work into nurturing it).

Wanting, wishing, and hoping won’t get you where you want to go. Even planning and goal setting won’t get you anywhere unless you grow up and show up!

Showing Up = Success

Showing up for the things you want (even when you reallllly don’t want to) time and time again is exactly how you move towards success.

It takes commitment; it takes courage; it takes tenacity; it takes stubbornness and conviction. Sometimes it just means giving yourself a bloody good talking to and hauling yourself out of bed in the morning.

But, just know that as you go through the motions of opening your laptop to attack that content even though the couch is calling, or driving to a meeting to pitch that new client even though you are shaking in your stylish boots – you’re getting through the hard part by just showing up.

And bonus motivation just for you lovelies… the more you keep showing up, the easier showing up gets! Magic!

We all know it can be hard to show up. Which is why a bit of business support never goes astray.

Showing up is ten times easier when you have someone holding you accountable. That is the main reason I have developed the Biz Slap Accountability Tribe. It is an online group for kick ass ladies wanting to drive forward in their business and achieve amazing things.
