So, you’ve managed to get through your entire life as a procrastinator – so far. Chances are, you have been pretty successful. Maybe you even managed to excel at many things as a highly functional procrastinator! Well done chick!
Of course, you should celebrate your superpowers and pat yourself on the back for all that you have achieved. But let me just throw a whopping spanner into works here. It’s my calling to help you be all that you can be by unleashing your full, unhindered, badass bitch potential. So, I gotta tell it like it is.
How much more could you have achieved if you didn’t procrastinate?
What opportunities might you have missed out on because of this self-sabotaging behaviour? How much higher and faster could you fly if you managed to ditch that bastard ball and chain that holds you back!?
Because the cold hard truth is that procrastination may seem like an innocent habit, but it can get in the way of your success.
Stress Impairs Success
Firstly, procrastination increases your stress levels. Many high-functioning procrastinators feel like they need that last-minute rushed deadline to get shit done, but there are better ways to motivate yourself!
Procrastination makes you less productive, builds anxiety, and can make you feel like shit about yourself. You know that feeling you get at the end of the day when you didn’t achieve the things you promised yourself you would – and chose mindless, unimportant crap instead?
It’s not a good feeling. That stress and low self-image impact your mindset and may hold you back from trying new things and taking action.
Bad Reputations Aren’t Cool
Maybe having a “bad” rep in high school made you cool, but having a bad reputation in business is seriously not cool.
It doesn’t take much to damage the relationships you have with customers, suppliers, or anyone you connect with in your industry. Missing deadlines, late payments, slow response to customers or slow delivery all destroy your brand and image. Bye-bye business growth and opportunities.
Opportunities Don’t Wait
Every business owner understands the importance of moving quickly to grab opportunities when they come along. Maybe you procrastinated in some area of your business which means you are unable to jump at the chance of a lifetime that appeared. Or perhaps you delay in making a decision and miss out completely.
Either way, if you are not proactive and ready to move in the direction of your dreams and goals, you’re going to kick yourself hard when the door slams shut in your face.
The Enemy Of Consistent Action
Basically babe, if you keep putting off the work you need to do towards your goals, you are never going to reach them.
Procrastination is the enemy of consistent action. If you keep waiting until tomorrow, you will wake up one day five or ten years down the track and wonder what the hell happened.
I know this all sounds as scary as hell. Procrastination is such a tempting habit, and we are all guilty of it from time to time.
But like all non-productive, unhealthy habits, we’d be better off if we had it under control. With the right tools, practices and support, you can ditch that dead weight and achieve all those things you dream of.
One of the best things to squash procrastination and grab those opportunities by the balls is accountability. There is nothing quite like the pressure of someone else knowing your delaying tactics to kick the A into G!
