How To Create Confidence For Sales Conversations

You love your business, you love helping people, you love making money doing what you enjoy, but there’s one thing holding you back…

You really really don’t love selling.

Therein lies the problem, ladies! To run a successful business, you need to sell what you do. If you don’t, you’re running a charity – and charities don’t pay the bills!

So many women feel yuck about sales, and nobody wants to be pushy and annoying.

The good news is that you don’t have to be salesy to sell your products and services.

All you need to do is reframe the way you approach selling, just like my client Rebekah Holmes from The Ship Shape Shoppe did as she grew her business.

Let’s look at how working with me helped Rebekah gain confidence in sales conversations and doubled her profits.

How To Create Confidence For Sales Conversations

Identify Your Blocks To Demolish Them

When you’re starting a business, it’s best to enter with your eyes wide open – not just to the world you’re stepping into, but into your inner world, too.

The sooner you identify any limiting beliefs or self-sabotaging behaviours, the sooner you can address them so they don’t hold you back.

Rebekah Holmes nailed this early on in her business journey. She is the organisational wizard and general kickass businesswoman running The Ship Shape Shoppe.

Her mission is to help busy women feel more relaxed and happy at home by decluttering and organising their spaces.

“I started with Nat in 2018 on her Sell With Confidence course. I think I have purchased every one of her products since then – most recently, it was fortnightly coaching.

There are several businesswomen that I admired and followed before starting The Ship Shape Shoppe. I noticed Nat’s name cropping up on their accounts on Instagram and investigated what this lady was all about – it was love at first sight!”

Ugh… Sales!

Like many women, Rebekah’s biggest block to success was her discomfort with selling. But she didn’t let that get in the way! Instead, Rebekah chose to tackle it head-on.

“I had just started my business. The only thing I knew was that I didn’t know much! I wanted to fail and learn fast. Starting a business with a baby meant my time and energy were at a premium, and I didn’t want to muck around.

I identified that sales were definitely a weak spot, so decided to start there. From there, my relationship and learning from Nat has adapted and grown as my business has grown.”

Be Of Service To Your Customers

The reason so many people are averse to sales is that we know what it’s like to be sold to in that sleazy “but wait, there’s more” kind of way. It’s gross and an instant turn-off to buyers.

But that’s not what selling is about these days – at least, that’s not what good selling is about!

You’re not trying to sell to anyone and everyone, desperate enough for money that you push things on people that they don’t need. What you’re doing is providing a service that your ideal customers need and want. That’s a whole different ballgame!

This is the big mindset shift you need to make. When you’re calling a potential customer, don’t think of it as a sales call. Approach it as a sales conversation.

Your intention is to understand their problems, needs, and wants and see if the services or products you offer can genuinely help them.

Try not to fixate on the actual sale when you’re chatting to your customers. Focus more on whether your business is a good fit for their needs. If it is, then you won’t be required to do the old “hard-sell.”

Having Sales Conversations

Rebekah worked on this concept with me, and it made an enormous difference to her confidence, ultimately boosting her business.

“I have learned a huge amount. My confidence in having sales conversations has gone through the roof. I now know that “sales is just a conversation” and that by selling my solutions, I’m actually being of service to my clients.

If I didn’t sell them my solutions, they’d remain stuck and stressed out. I honestly believe that without Nat’s guidance, mentorship and support, I’d probably have given up by now through not making enough progress to satisfy my high-achieving ego!”

I have seen my profit double since working with Nat. I’ve secured guest appearances on national television, recurring gigs on talk-back radio, and I’ve successfully pitched my services to corporate clients as an expert in my field. I’ve survived a global pandemic and came out of the August 2020 lockdown and enjoyed three consecutive months of achieving my best ever sales.”

Find The Solution That Works For You

There’s no magical solution to make any business successful. We all have different strengths and challenges personally that hold us back, and the business environment looks different to everyone.

Instead of looking for shortcuts and quick fixes, put in the work to figure out the precise needs of your business. Sometimes, it can help to have a little outside perspective to speed up the process.

“Nat is the real deal. She knows what her clients need and doesn’t force them through a linear programme with a one-size-fits-all approach. She has all the tools in her toolkit to provide you with the support you NEED, as opposed to the support she wants to GIVE.

She has an uncanny knack for knowing what you’re struggling with before you can articulate it and pulls no punches when it comes to setting you straight. She is the most gentle, no BS business badass that I know. Simply the best money I have EVER invested in my business, and myself for that matter.”

Business Can Be FUN!

Trust me, babe, I know that running a business can be a hard slog at times – especially when you’re going it alone and faced with a ton of unknown and a buttload of insecurities.

But here’s the thing – you didn’t start your own business to be stressed and depressed, right! You wanted to do the thing you love, have a bit of freedom and control over your life, and enjoy your work!

It is possible, especially when you have the right people in your corner.

“Don’t think that it is all straight-talking, crack the whip, all-work-no-play when you work with Nat. Our sessions are laugh out loud fun.  I ALWAYS leave feeling lighter, more confident and capable than when I walk in.

I think that’s partly because Nat genuinely cares for her clients. She thinks about us in between sessions, intuitively knows when we have something going on and gives so much of herself to help her clients move forward.

That is why she has so many loyal clients and followers – she knows her stuff, she is real and honest about her own business journey, and she’s bloody good fun to be around. She’s the best!”
